Wow, it’s May! Senior year of high school for CK ends the 31st. College acceptance, Prom, Drivers License, AP exams, next up – Graduation.
Where did the last 18 years go? Where is the 3 year old who spent hours jumping in the puddles in the parking lot after daycare?
What happened to the 5 year old and friends who threw tiny undies into the ceiling fan and watched them shoot around the living room giggling hysterically?
Where is the little guy who wanted Mom on every school field trip?
I miss the boy who on a whim would put on the homemade Sponge Bob Halloween costume and run around the house. That costume got it’s fair share of wear. Girls play princess, my guy and his friends played Sponge Bob.
I still have the first “Go Texan Day” cowboy vest for the start of rodeo. The first cowboy hat is long gone. There are a few items you need to keep, others that get lost in the shuffle. When I look through photos or one pops up on Facebook really brings back fun memories. First trip to Disney World, first concert, baseball games and just plain fun in the backyard.
I’ll definitely miss end-of-summer camp talent shows, both as a participant and then as a camp counselor.
I’ll miss the stories about 5 year olds from a teenager’s perspective. “Ya know, little kids say the craziest things! It’s amazing what comes out of their mouths and what they do!” I kept telling him “the knowledge you gain from working with 5 year olds will serve you well. The same skills will be needed with adults. He just won’t have to crouch down to their level.
Now he’s moving on from working at summer camp to working in a warehouse for the summer. Moving from dealing with kids, to dealing with adults.
The next chapter, college is on the horizon. I think I’m about ready, I know he is.
